Since his childhood, Jean Dovy been always attracted by music. Growing in a family of music lovers, each generation contributes to his basic inspirations.
As music lover he started at the age of 10 years old, after been offered his 1st record player, to collect his firsts vinyls , 2 years later he discovers the world of computers by the gifts from his parents.
At the age of 16 he has a little experience as selector for parties and naturally came to the djing one year later, but without to forget to mention, at this period he discovered on radio shows, the 1sts imported house tracks mixed by djs like Dimitri from Paris for the most known.
During 5 years he gonna forge his ears by listenning to productions from Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Victor Simonelli, Shep Petibone, Todd Terry, Kerri Chandler, Marshall Jefferson, Coldcut, Bomb The Bass, Inner City and Kevin Saunderson, Carl Craig, Derrick Carter, Larry Heard…
After a long time, of researches, he finally made the step to the production side in 1993 with an Amiga 1200 and Protracker 3.15,he works day and night to satisfy his inspiration and to perfect into various steps and styles of music. The year 1997, release of 1st vinyl on the label of Claude Monnet, House Trade Records, a collaborative EP under the nickname of D&S. His print is on the track titled “Deep In Underground“.
Then comes a time of the clubs, the parties, the projects, evolving into the underground side of Lyon (France), he meets and shares about passion with several producers and djs from the electronic music scene such as Teddy G (Papa Stomp), Patchworks, the Eardrum crew, Herve Aka, Manoo, Brozza Fragg, Superhuit Music…
The sure thing is, being a house producer didn’t make him stop to this genre, he stills meet artists from circles of jazz, funk, rock, hip-hop, drum ‘n’ bass, with the same motivation to discover and to play with music. On his path he met Vartan Fau, a jazz pianist formed at the Berkeley School, with who since the year 2000 they frequently work together and cook a few releases under the name of Men from Nobu, ‘Nobu‘ is a track by Herbie Hancock, a common musician beloved by the duo. Previous releases, were made under the names of Effendi and FueL, on the label Lokossa Music.
Back into chronology, we have the time of releases and remixes made with several labels since 2010, more than 150 tracks with Soul Shift Music, Law Recordings, Disco Birds, Nylon Trax Records, Ambiosphere Recordings, Sweatin Records, Undertechnical Recordings, Expanded Records, Intermission LTD, Deep Movements, Street Wise Music Group. During the same period he had a podcast of deep house mixes named, ”Burn It”, more than 50000 downloads on 3 years, for a total of 90 episodes, made of 3 seasons.
With the help of Soul Shift Music and SUGO Music Group, Lokossa Music and Raw Matter Recordings came to birth in 2013. Both labels seen some releases playlisted by some shops recommendations like JunoDownload or even some djs/producers like Larry Heard.
Here comes the year 2014 and the foundation of dovymusic, regrouping 2 more labels and a webradio, Groove Park Records and somanymusic are some sublabels covering same width of musical genres than Lokossa Music and Raw Matter Recordings but with a more selective catalog, MoodsRadio is an independant media offering to listen to the entire catalog, and not only, partners like Soul Shift Music, Nylon Trax Records and Law Recordings are also ‘on air’ besides some mixes provided by some talented djs.
Still building the future, some new projects are about to come and bring some difference in the universe of music…
